	DECA Soars at Internationals— 2 Take Home 1st ; 10 Score in Top 8 14,000 students participated in the 2012 DECA Internationals in Salt Lake City on April 28–May 1. Brenna and Callie Mack, juniors at MWHS took first place in their category.
	Westonka Ranks among the Best— U.S. News & World Report MWHS has been named one of the top schools in the nation according to a recently released online ranking from U.S. News and World Report.

	GMS Art Gala— Raises Funds for Zambia The annual GMS Art Gala included actors portraying the Oz characters, both vocal and instrumental music and a fabulous visual arts presentation.
	Pop Singers Spotlight Shows— 40-Year Tradition Continues The Westonka Pop Singers Spotlight Spectacular Shows will feature solo and duet performances by 2012 MWHS seniors.

	Boys Tennis Clinches Title— Bests Litchfield & Hutchinson Last Friday, Boys Tennis hosted Hutchinson in a make-up match to determine the conference champion.
	Baseball Bests Orono— Holloway Pitches Shutout MWHS Baseball wins again vs. Orono 3-0. Zach Holloway threw a complete game shutout striking out 3, walking 3 and allowing 2 hits.

Our High School Ranks among the Best—in the State & the Nation

We recently learned that Mound Westonka High School has been named one of the top schools in the nation according to an online ranking released last week from U.S. News and World Report.

The report ranks Mound Westonka 17th in the state and 668th nationally and earns us a “Best High Schools” Silver Medal. Nearly 22,000 U.S. public high schools across the nation were reviewed. In Minnesota, only 145 schools out of 783 made the online rankings; there were a total of 7 gold medal schools, 42 silver medal schools, and 96 bronze medal schools.

While we are honored, we are not surprised by this recognition. The results are a reflection of our strategic efforts in preparing our students for the 21st Century and education after high school. Our staff’s hard work and dedication are evident in our many everyday successes, but it is especially rewarding to see how well we rank against some of the biggest districts in the state.
